Playcare
“ | That is why it is with enormous pleasure that as the founder of Playtime Co. I announce, Playcare, our very own on-site orphanage. | ” |
— Elliot Ludwig |
Playcare is an upcoming location in the Playtime Co. factory, originally created as an on-site underground orphanage. It was confirmed at the end of Chapter 2: Fly in a Web after the train crashes.
Playcare was outfitted with a school, a hospital, a large number of dormitories and possibly even a playground, as seen in Chapter 3's teasers. Some areas of it also appear to have been occupied by machinery and pipework.
Lore
In the Chapter 3 Teaser Trailer, Playcare was confirmed to have been announced by Elliot Ludwig himself, and that it was made for children to take refuge in it as an underground orphanage.
Playtime Co. would eventually resort to experimenting on the Playcare's orphans and using them to create living toys.
At some point, a child that lived in the Playcare, 7-year-old Theodore Grambell, was repeatedly visited by The Prototype and convinced by him to rummage through Joel Sinclair's office and steal two Grab Packs and two Green Hands. Soon after, Theodore was injured by one of the Green Hands while trying to open a maintenance door in the Playcare with The Prototype's help. CatNap was later created and sent there with the purpose of putting the orphans to sleep so Playtime Co. could experiment on them without creating suspicions.
Playcare has been confirmed to be Chapter 3's main setting.
Mascots
The Playcare has many mascots including DogDay, CraftyCorn, Bubba Bubbaphant, Bobby BearHug, Hoppy Hopscotch, PickyPiggy, KickinChicken, and CatNap.
Trivia
- In the prototype version of Chapter 2: Fly in a Web, Poppy reveals that the train is heading towards Playcare. However, in the final version, she does not tell The Player where they are going.
- Since Playcare was announced and opened by Elliot Ludwig, who passed away by the 1990s, the orphanage must be quite old.
- This may mean that either Playcare was originally built for genuine and moral purposes or that the experiments had been going on for a long time even before the Bigger Bodies Initiative.
- It is possible that the Bigger Bodies Initiative was active during the time of Elliot Ludwig.
