Reason: Spoilers regarding the Vintage Poppy Commercial and Playtime Co.

There is nothing more gratifying to my soul than being the reason for a child's smile. To be the spark that ignites all their hopes and dreams. We owe everything to these children; this company and its toys are nothing without them.
Elliot Ludwig

Elliot Ludwig is a minor character seen in Poppy Playtime, specifically within the Vintage Poppy Commercial. He is the Founder and Overseer of Playtime Co.

Appearance

Elliot Ludwig is an old man with light skin, blackish hair, and an unknown eye color (presumably brown). He is seen wearing some kind of suit and holding a microphone during the very first VHS tape in the beginning of Chapter 1: A Tight Squeeze, which seems to be an old Playtime Co. commercial for Poppy herself and for the factory tours that were once held there. This appearance is also the first and last time we see him. We also hear his voice in the Chapter 3 Teaser Trailer.

Personality

As shown in the VHS played in his office, Elliot was described as, "Divorced, but a family man at heart" - which is up to interpretation to the player, as it can insinuate many things. He is deemed a hardworking man, who often worked overtime to achieve his goals in the factory. He was described as surviving a tragic loss and essentially creating an empire within his factory, essentially creating such a powerful business that is Playtime Co. - although at the end of the tape an important year is cut off. It is, however, in the 20th century.

Story

Playtime Co. was founded in 1930 by the brilliant Elliot Ludwig. Like his namesake, Ludwig was a visionary and creative genius. Ludwig devoted every waking second of his life to bring joy to children. However, this relentless work ethic came at a cost of his personal life, as his wife Molly divorced him in 1930. Despite this, as well as an unfortunate family death occurring in the 1960s, Elliot never stopped creating. Ludwig revolutionized the toy industry and brought happiness to millions around the globe.

At some point in time, Elliot announced the opening of Playcare, Playtime Co.'s new on-site orphanage. He stated that a child should never be left unloved and should have someone to comfort them when they see a monster in their closet. He then expressed his hopes that Playcare will bring joy, inspiration, and smiles to every child who enters the orphanage.

Trivia

  • The actor for Elliot Ludwig within the Vintage Poppy Commercial originates from an ad about a toy similar to Poppy Playtime, that doll being Smarty Pants[2].
  • Elliot Ludwig is canonically divorced in 1930 as heard in the Game Jolt event.
    • Elliot's wife's name (Molly) is actually a reference to EnchantedMOB's office dog's name, Molly.
  • Elliot Ludwig appears to be affiliated with the experiments ending up with monsters like Huggy Wuggy.
    • Chapter 2 shows this via the Experiment 814 note found in his office.
    • In the Chapter 3 Teaser Trailer, he says that "they owe everything to children", as their "company and its toys are nothing without them."
  • It is speculated that Elliot might be The Prototype. As Mommy Long-Legs (Experiment 1222) was created before 1991, The Prototype (Experiment 1006) was probably created around the late 1980s, a time when Elliot Ludwig would have been around 90 years old. For this reason Ludwig might have been put into The Prototype to further his life or to take him out of the way of Harley Sawyer and/or Leith Pierre. [3]
  • It's possible that Elliot Ludwig was heavily inspired by Walt Disney.
  • It's speculated that the unnamed relative who died was an adopted daughter of Elliot Ludwig. While he was able to successfully transfer her inside of Poppy, he isn't exactly sure what he did.
    • We know this based on the note about Experiment 814, which is found in his office.[4]
  • Despite Ludwig's face being shown in the Vintage Poppy Commercial, his face is censored in other Playtime Co. media.
    • It's also worth noting that his voice is different in the Chapter 3 Teaser Trailer.
