“ | If there is anything Playtime Co. should be known for, it’s not toys, it’s marketing. | ” |
— Jimmy Roth. |
Jimmy Roth is a minor character introduced in Poppy Playtime. He debuted in Chapter 2: Fly in a Web during his own interview regarding his role in helping Playtime Co. strive with his investing/marketing skills.
Appearance
Jimmy Roth has slicked-back brown hair and brown eyes, alongside a shaved beard. He wears a yellow long-sleeved shirt with a dark blue vest. He is the Chief Marketing Officer for Playtime Co.
Personality
Jimmy Roth is a very smart person and he has somewhat mastered the art of marketing (even with dubious marketing tactics). He is depicted very enthusiastic about his work which shows in his voice. By adding an "e" sound to the end of any mascots' names, Jimmy has been able to market Playtime Corporation's many mascots and creations.
When being interviewed, Jimmy tries not to reveal too much about his tactics nor his job, distracting the interviewer with questions about the interviewers favorite color instead. Jimmy Roth may have a self-centered attitude, believing that he is the best even though his marketing techniques are questionable.
Despite his self-centeredness and his supposed success with the "e" sound strategy, it is highly unlikely this is his only strategy for marketing, as not only would it not make sense from a business or marketing standpoint, but his reluctance to answer the interviewer's further questions and his attempt at distraction implies that he has more strategies that he uses, likely nefarious and immoral ones.
Roth also appears to be somewhat resentful of Playtime Co., as his statement on why marketing should be the company's well known product and not it's toys may be a result of his marketing work not being appreciated enough by employees and him being sidelined from actual importance and rewards he believes he deserves. He may additionally possess an inferiority complex about his role too.
Trivia
- Jimmy Roth is played by renowned movie actor and director Eli Roth.
- Interestingly, Jimmy has the same last name as Eli.
- Jimmy's marketing strategy of adding an "e" sound to the end of a mascot's name tells us that future antagonists will have names that end with an "e" sound.
- This seems to have been confirmed by the introduction of Boxy Boo.
- It may be the case that almost all of the toys after Elliot Ludwig were named by Jimmy, especially considering the rather unique (if not dubious) naming system that was taken from Ludwig himself, as he knew with "Poppy".
- This also somewhat implies he had a bigger role in the Bigger Bodies Initiative than his job would have appeared to.
- Whether or not the "e" strategy really works (as the popularity of toys like Huggy Wuggy and Poppy Playtime is almost certainly not based on their names rhyming but the design and features of it) like Roth claims so is unknown, but it is doubtful this is his only method of marketing.
