PJ Pug-a-Pillar is a Swap-imal toy produced by Playtime Co., who debuted in Chapter 2: Fly in a Web of Poppy Playtime. He resides in the Statues game as its main antagonist. The Player must play a game of Statues while trying to reach the exit, all the while avoiding being caught by PJ.

Appearance

PJ Pug-a-Pillar is a long creature that's a mix of pug and caterpillar, as his name suggests. His entire body is comprised of fluffy, woolly segments of pink, magenta and pale indigo. His head consists of large, dilated black eyes, a pink muzzle, a heart-shaped indigo nose, dark pink cheeks, a grinning mouth showing multiple teeth akin to a dog's, a lolling pink tongue, and fluffy indigo ears. He appears to have two teardrop markings underneath each eye. He has multiple pink limbs growing along the sides of his body, ending in what appears to be purple medieval jester's shoes, with skinny curved and pointed toes.

Mechanics

PJ Pug-a-Pillar's jumpscare

PJ Pug-a-Pillar will follow The Player during the entire ordeal of Statues, moving even when the lights are on. If PJ reaches The Player, he will jumpscare and kill them, resetting the game. This will also happen if The Player moves or fires their GrabPack while the lights are on. However, PJ will not kill The Player if they swing while hanging on to the rings or are simply looking around the room.

PJ moves in tandem with The Player, so as they are nearing the end of Statues, PJ will go by a specific speed to catch up to them. PJ speeds up immensely once the player fails. The only way to escape from PJ (since the exit is blocked off by debris) is by grappling upwards to a window, shatter it, and enter the room, where The Player must drop into a hole in the floor. The Player will listen to Mommy Long Legs get angry at their escape and survival as they continue on, with her protest that she "doesn't like cheaters" and her promise of finding them.

Trivia

• Whitney Miller teased that PJ Pug-a-Pillar was initially planned to be a female, and go by the name 'Cassie Cutie-Pillar'. The initial design for the character resembles a caterpillar more than a dog.
• Tinkles, from Hotel Transylvania, was an inspiration for the facial features that can be scrutinized on PJ Pug-a-Pillar.
• Editors Note: This information was told in a Discord voice chat, so there isn't a citation currently. We are working on trying to obtain/find one.
• PJ is the only minigame antagonist with an unknown destined fate, unlike Bunzo Bunny and the Mini Huggies who were killed by Mommy Long Legs after they failed to kill The Player.
• In Chapter 3 Gameplay Trailer 1, we can see PJ Pug-a-Pillar dead body on The Prototype's shrine. It’s possible that this is a different PJ Pug-a-Pillar because there are two PJ Pug-a-Pillars in the RESTRICTED restoration.mp4. And it was confirmed by the developers on Discord that he was still alive. The evidence is right here. However In RESTRICTED restoration.mp4,You can see that the size of one of the PJ pug-a-pillars does not match the picture.

• PJ's jumpscare has multiple frames where his head would disappear. The reasons for this are currently unknown.
• PJ's jumpscare also depicts him with completely sky blue fur, which is inaccurate compared to his actual appearance in-game.
• In the new patch, whenever The Player goes past PJ's head, they get jumpscared.
• PJ now turns around from the debris at the exit and walks back into the foam pit, then turns around when next to the slide exits.
• PJ's cardboard voice has possible inspiration to Scooby-Doo from the titular franchise.
