Analysis

The gameplay teaser begins with the start of the Smiling Critters Cartoon and continues for a long time until the official logo is shown. Suddenly, the screen cuts to static and then displays an emergency alert screen on the TV. On August 8, 1995, at 11:00 PM, Playtime Company issues a work force danger alert throughout the entire factory, confirming fan theories that the Hour of Joy, which was hinted at in The Prototype and during the Final Log, actually occurs on the same date mentioned in the RESTRICTED relocation 08-08-1995.mp4 file. If the teaser is brightened, a silhouette of a large creature or person can be seen walking off screen.

Before the automated voice can announce the situation, the trailer switches to a screen of black static and the mysterious messenger writes "HAVE YOU HEARD THE NEWS" on the screen. Then the screen transitions to cinematic shots of an artificial hill with a house, bright cardboard skies, artificial trees, and decaying wood and features. A voice, presumably Poppy Playtime, whispers to The Player and says "Find the flower," seemingly confirming she was the one who sent The Player the letter.

The screen cuts again to gameplay footage from The Player's perspective. They explore a ruined version of Home Sweet Home, showing new animations for the GrabPack and unsettling new environments of a wooden location filled with out of place and broken bunk beds. The camera cuts again as The Player looks up to reveal the Gas Mask, an key item in countering CatNap. A cinematic shot then shows a group of Smiling Critters plushies, along with other merchandise like Candy Cat dispensers or Bron figures displayed being hung the wall, while CatNap takes center stage.

As the black, static-filled screen persists, the unknown messenger proceeds to type out a chilling message: "THESE CHILDREN HAVE SUFFERED." In addition to this unsettling revelation, DogDay exposes a disturbing truth - The Prototype is considered to be CatNap's "god." He continues with the spine-chilling statement, "This is what he does to heretics." Accompanying this statement are a series of shots that intensify the eerie atmosphere. Among them is a poster featuring CatNap commanding all children to be in bed before the lights go out, suggesting a sinister control over their lives. Another shot showcases a shrine adorned with broken metal and toy parts, topped off with a haunting addition of a human skull, all devoted to The Prototype. Lastly, a shadow looms on the wall, seemingly representing the intimidating counterpart of DogDay's Bigger Bodies form.

Once again, the black screen takes over and proclaims, "THESE CHILDREN GROW HUNGRY." Following this message, more gameplay shots are unveiled, specifically highlighting the new mechanical Purple GrabPack hand. This version of the GrabPack hand propels the player in the opposite direction upon activation, making it easier to traverse long distances. The footage also features a scene where the player switches from the Green hand to the Purple hand, emphasizing the need to prioritize based on the given situation. Furthermore, a television displaying a VHS audio log is shown, with Huggy Wuggy taking center stage. This log introduces a more savage and unnerving incarnation of Huggy, featuring sharp teeth reminiscent of nails and an absence of pupils, heightening the sense of horror.

The black screen reemerges, declaring "THESE CHILDREN ARE SAVED," suggesting a glimmer of hope for the tormented youngsters or possibly alluding to the intervention of The Player. In the midst of this, Poppy's voice joins the conversation, expressing her reliance on us and proclaiming, "Together, we can get revenge on those monsters who've tortured you! Tortured us!" This showcases Poppy's determination to unite forces and seek vengeance against their tormentors. Accompanying this dialogue are various scenes, with a particular emphasis on CatNap's legs as they traverse a hallway. These shots are the first to be revealed relating to CatNap's full body. Additionally, Poppy is seen accompanying The Player, along with Kissy Missy, indicating a collaborative effort to confront and potentially halt The Prototype's influence.

The black screen reappears, now tinted red, and displays the text "THE HOUR OF JOY ARRIVES." The phone that was previously hinted at during the launch of Project: Playtime's second phase, Incineration, is finally revealed as it starts ringing loudly in the teaser. The text then appears again, saying "CELEBRATE." The scene transitions to The Player walking down a steep room adorned with elegant green wallpaper, which is filled with CatNap's ominous red gas. Simultaneously, Poppy can be heard shouting, "WE'RE COMING!" In response, The Player quickly equips a Gas Mask to counteract the toxic gas. Once again, the text appears on the screen, this time reading "REJOICE." A shot follows, showing The Player descending through a ventilation system, eventually reaching a catwalk-like location. Meanwhile, Poppy declares, "Prototype has to die, for this, for everything!"

The text reappears on the screen, noticeably growing redder, with the word "SLEEP" displayed. A scene unfolds, showing DogDay relentlessly pursuing The Player through a play area. The room is adorned with a combination of white, red, and cyan accents, with splotches of red blood scattered around, creating an eerie atmosphere. The camera then pulls back, revealing The Player launching themselves into a small air duct. However, just as they are about to enter the vent, the video abruptly stops, leaving the screen black. Moments later, the screen returns, this time unveiling a full-body view of CatNap, shrouded in unsettling shadows. CatNap appears notably slimmer and is surrounded by a collection of broken toys, symbolizing his dominance over Playcare. As the screen fades out, only CatNap's unsettling white pupils remain visible. Finally, the Chapter 3 title card is displayed before the video comes to an end, leaving viewers intrigued about what lies ahead in the next chapter of the game.

Trivia

  • Upon the initial release of the trailer, fans expressed their outrage towards Mob Entertainment regarding CatNap's striking resemblance to Huggy Wuggy. CatNap featured a similar design, showcasing a lanky creature with two legs and a slim physique. This caused concerns among fans who believed that Mob Entertainment was recycling character designs without much variation.
    • However, dedicated fans closely analyzed the trailer and came to a different conclusion. They pointed out that CatNap actually stands on four legs, unlike Huggy Wuggy, who stands on two.
